STREET DEPARTMENT &  

DEPARTMENT ASSISTANT 

The City of De Smet is accepting applications for a full-time Street Department worker and Department Assistant worker.  The position involves performing various duties including maintaining the streets, snow removal, and assisting all other departments.   Must possess a high school diploma or GED.  Experience in street maintenance preferred.  Possession of or ability to obtain a SD Dept. of Agriculture Commercial Chemical Applicator’s License, and Commercial Driver’s License is required.   Must be able to pass a drug & alcohol test.  Salary DOE.   Benefits include paid holidays, health insurance, vision insurance, dental insurance, life insurance, SDRS membership, vacation and sick leave.   To apply complete an application available at De Smet City Hall, 106 Calumet Avenue, De Smet or call 605-854-3731.  Applications will be accepted until the position is filled.

Summer 2026 

The City of De Smet is accepting applications for the summer positions as follows: 

Lifeguards:  Must be able to pass lifeguard training, CPR and First Aid Classes (training provided).

Applicants must be 15 years of ages and older.

Summer Recreation: 3 Girls Softball Coaches and 3 Boys Baseball Coaches

Applicants must be 16 years of age or older.

Applications accepted until February 9, 2026, 9:00 AM @ City Hall.
